Richard Lloyd on the five chord cycle
Here’s an awesome lesson on the cycle of 5ths on the guitar. It’s very useful for songwriting in my opinion, but can also be useful as an exercise for the hands.
So we all know there are 5 “main” chords in our musical system right?

Well, guitarist Richard Lloyd has a lesson where he shows you a pretty sweet way of working on switching between them…
In BARRE CHORD form.
It’s not for beginners. Maybe somewhere between intermediate and advanced…
Ah fuck it. It’s tough enough I’d go with advanced. Even Richard has trouble with em LOL.
Just check it out
P.S. If you’re looking for a more complete system for learning music theory for guitar, including a deep breakdown of the CAGED system, the pentatonic and major scales, chord theory, and the modes, I highly recommend Desi Serna’s Guitar Music Theory course. Go through that course and you’ll know almost everything there is to know for becoming a great musician, not just a guitar player.
Keep in mind this is not a substitute for learning songs. You still need to learn actual music. But to understand the theory behind the songs, go through the course, and then TIE whatever you learn back to the songs you ALREADY know. There’s no better way to learn theory than that.
Note: It costs me money to get this info into the hands of guitarists like you. If you wanna support No B.S. Guitar and maybe help me get a new set of strings for my axe, please purchase the course through my link (I’ll make a few bucks commission). Otherwise, you can google “Guitar music theory”. I still recommend the course highly. Thanks.
