How’s your guitar practice posture?

by Johnny

Post image for How’s your guitar practice posture?

I haven’t thought about practicing posture much until I came across this article.

And you know what? He’s right.

Having improper posture is not only bad for your back, it’s also bad for your PLAYING.

If you practice in one position, well then you better perform in that SAME position. Otherwise your muscle memory won’t do what you want in that new position. It only remembers what you train it to remember, and in that same position only.

If you play standing, then one way to do it would be to always practice standing.

But what if you don’t feel like standing while practicing?

The author suggests using a guitar strap as the answer. This way you can keep a consistent position even when sitting.

It makes sense right? Varying your hand position and angle of the arm and picking angles… all those things can confuse your muscle memory. Keeping the same position no matter if you are sitting or standing — that makes sure your body knows exactly what to do when you need it most. While performing.
